Short summary
A global network of ground-based instruments has been using moonlight to measure atmospheric aerosols at night, producing the world's largest such dataset. Employing an empirical correction method that accounts for the Moon's complex and variable brightness results in nighttime measurements that agree closely with daytime measurements during day/night transition intervals under stable aerosol conditions.
