Short summary
A new reliable system has been developed for measuring gradients of CO₂/H₂O within surface roughness layer. This development is a part of a decade-long program at University of Tennessee to refine the understanding of maize agriculture in locations outside the conventional realm of perfect sites. The focus is on small farms in complex terrain, such as dominating most of Africa and much of eastern North America. Experience has resulted in a need for detailed CO₂/H₂O gradients below canopy level.
