Short summary
Reliable vertical wind retrieval is essential for understanding atmospheric coupling and
dynamics. We present a novel Volume Velocity Processing method in spherical coordinates for
the mesosphere and lower thermosphere, improve physical consistency, and compare results with
current state-of-the-art models (VVP, 3DVAR+DIV, JAWARA, and SE-WACCM-X). Results
show reduced altitude-dependent biases from incomplete representation of the observation
geometry in mean horizontal and vertical winds.
