Short summary
We present an uncertainty estimation for the retrieval of aerosol properties from a Vaisala CT25k ceilometer at JOYCE (Jülich Observatory for Cloud Evolution) with a forward inversion method. Ceilometer aerosol mass concentrations and extinction coefficients were compared to in situ observations (optical particle sizer) from a close-by tower at 120 m, showing a mean absolute percentage error of 39 % when deriving aerosol mass concentrations from ceilometer aerosol extinction coefficients.
