This study evaluates the vertical distribution of particle shape (VDPS) method for identifying particle shapes and riming/aggregation using in-situ and multi-frequency radar data from the CLOUDLAB campaign. Despite non-Rayleigh scattering effects, results show that the VDPS method using a Ka-band scanning cloud radar in slanted depolarization ratio (SLDR) mode is effective for hydrometeor classification.

We implemented a two-step colocation strategy to improve the transferability of sensor calibration models to field conditions, particularly for total volatile organic compound (TVOC) and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) sensors. In our comparison of various calibration models, we found that they generally performed well even as they tended to overpredict baseline concentrations and underpredict peaks. This work provides important insights on TVOC and BTEX sensor calibration.

In this work, we tested different placements of a temperature and humidity sensor onboard a drone to understand what the relative errors are. Understanding these errors is critical as we want to collect more meteorological data from non-specialized platforms, such as drone swarms and drone package delivery.
